The author has done well to cut himself adrift from the old traditions, from the red tape, statistics, and references to antiquated authorities and theories. He has relegated the telluric, miasmatic, electrical, meteorological, geological, and other favourite myths to the limbo of a forgotten past, and has substituted modern applied science with its microbes and amoebre.
